Dr. Umaña brings a multidisciplinary perspective shaped by her experience across educational and healthcare settings. Her background as a classroom teacher and school psychologist informs her understanding of children’s academic, behavioral, and developmental needs, as well as the educational systems and special education processes that support them. She completed her predoctoral internship in Pediatric Developmental Disabilities at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Autism Spectrum Disorders and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities at Texas Children’s Hospital. Through these experiences, she developed specialized expertise in behavioral assessment and intervention, parent management training, and the differential diagnosis of autism and co-occurring neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions. She subsequently served as a bilingual psychologist and behavior analyst at Texas Children’s Hospital, providing comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and individualized interventions for children with autism and complex developmental and behavioral needs.
Throughout her career, Dr. Umaña has been passionate about expanding access to high-quality services for culturally and linguistically diverse families. As a bilingual and bicultural clinician, she emphasizes care that is not only evidence-based but also responsive to each family’s language, culture, and individual needs. In her current role, she is focused on developing comprehensive, family-centered clinical programs, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and mentoring the next generation of psychologists and behavior analysts.
On her free time, Dr. Umaña enjoys spending time with her family, planning events and bringing friends together, and getting lost in a good thriller.
